now...when i asked her about diabetes, she told me that because insulin is produced at one end of the pancreas and they were taking off the other end, this should not be an issue. her GIST was situated outside her pancreas on her duodenum near where all the "duct work" came together. the surgery took long, according to the doctor, because they had to recreate all this duct work.
and where they might talk about a big incision and through muscle...didn't happen with AUNT TERRI. it went mostly laproscopically and a much smaller incision. which will speed recovery.
