the amazing jacob...

okay...let's paint the picture:
it's thursday, january 8th. i'm sitting on the couch. it's quiet time in our house. jacob is sitting with me playing his v-smiles that he got for Christmas. he's playing a math game. the questions are similar to this: 1+?=5. you have to push the button to get the ? to turn into 1, then 2, then 3, etc., until you get to the right answer. this kid was AMAZING!!! he pushed it 4 times, then moved on. next question, just as fast. and on and on and on. i couldn't believe it!!!! i know he knows his math through 10 (and a little over sometimes), but this was UNBELIEVABLE! i sent his daddy a couple of messages telling him that i couldn't believe how amazing he was doing at his math. i couldn't wait for him to get home so that he could see. i just couldn't explain how awesome it was!
in the meantime, jacob was telling me about some blinking balloons on the screen. and yes, there were some balloons that blinked. you see, once you get the right answer, the center balloon was full enough (but not too full where it would pop) and you could move it to the right or left and add it to another group that would lift off a person.
i just sat there in amazement watching him. he was concentrating so hard. and moving SO fast with his answers.

a little while later:
i told him i wanted to try to play the game (mostly because i didn't think my fingers could move that fast). being the awesome sharer he is (NOT) he let me play. and looked over my shoulder the whole time. as i was pressing the button he told me...watch for the blinking balloon. that's how you know you have the right answer. and sure enough...the balloon starts to blink right when you get to the right number. so you know to move it at that point. ughhh....the sadness. he didn't know them that fast...he just knew how to work the system.

imagine that...working the system at 4 years old!!!

but...i would like to point out...he is still very brilliant. he DOES know his math through at least 10 (addition AND subtraction). he's very interested in numbers. he is constantly asking what this + that equals. yesterday he asked what was 3,000 + 9. so he's on to bigger numbers!!!!!

i have no pictures of him playing his v-smiles that day to add here. i'm sorry for that. i was just in such amazement, i didn't want to move for fear of making his talent go away!!!!
