sickies....

the kiddos all developed colds a little over a week ago. then on last thursday jack spiked a fever. took him in to see the doc and he has bronchitis. his nose is better now. fever went away same day. very next day, a fever joined jordyn's cough (that she's had all week). took her in on a friday and the nurse practioner heard wheezing, so sent her for chest x-ray. x-ray showed congestion. we added a nebulizer to our daily plan...every 4 hours.

that night, jordyn's fever peaked at 106.8. she had been on tylenol and ibuprofen every 3 hours because she was miserable, so that fever was WITH meds. gave her ibuprofen, put her to bed and checked her in an hour. temp was down to 100, so i felt okay to wait until morning.

checked with nurse practioner next morning, saturday, only to be told to head to ER since she had a high fever (104 in the morning). being an EMT, i now know that a fever isn't a bad thing, but if the fever RAPIDLY comes on, that's when you worry about seizures. since it was gradual, i wasn't concerned about seizures. and had it not come down to at least 100, i would have had her at the ER the night before.

anyway...ER doc says her lungs look like that of a child with RSV. they did a RSV and flu test (sucked snot out of her nose---and she LET them). sent us home telling us that we didn't necessarily need to continue the antibiotics, or the nebulizer if i didn't think they were doing anything. i continued antibiotics, but not the nebulizer. it had worn off it's "coolness" after about the 3rd treatment.
