fire safety...

so a friend of mine in my emt class told me about a fire safety even that was happening (early october). so i decided to brave it with 3 kids all by myself. other than losing jack one time (even wearing squeaky shoes) it went really well and the kids had a blast.

• we got to see, climb on, and ride on fire trucks. some old, some new, and all different kinds.
• we got to see how dangerous electricity can be (this is where jack disappeared to when i couldn't find him)
• we got to watch the whole crew do a demonstration on a car accident and how to provide EMS care to them, including extrication. it was awesome to see the tools in use.
• we got to sit in a pretend bedroom and learn about smoke detectors and what to do, where to go, if there should ever be a fire in our house. even jack has it memorized on where we are to go and to let rescue personnel help him out of the house if mommy and daddy can't.
• there were a couple of remote controlled cars there, one firetruck and one police car. they both had characters inside and the controllers were able to speak through the animals. jack was extremely taken by these. then jacob and jordyn got involved.

at one point we had to run home because jacob had to go potty, but they were all very insistant on going back.
all in all, we spent almost 3 hours there that day. what an event. good job o'fallon for putting it together!

we got to watch a helicopter land and then we got to climb aboard. jack was SOOOO amazed. he could barely contain his excitement and kept trying to butt in line in order to get on the helicopter. it truly was an awesome thing to see. something i learned...never watch the helicopter as it gets close to the ground. it shoots up any and all dust and debris that is on the ground. there were little rocks and such in all the backs of our heads.

the end of our day. she was hanging out on the back of the truck while the boys chased the firetruck around. what an eventful, exhausting day.
