hives...

so a week ago now, jacob started a new indoor soccer league with the kids from his school team. he did very well, and was so excited to be playing again. i think he'll be a good little catholic boy and play soccer like they are supposed to!!!

when we got were getting in the car to go home i noticed that his cheeks were red. i just assumed it was from running around and the EXTREME cold weather. by the time we got home, it looked almost like acne and was spreading around his face a little more. a couple hours later, it was on his neck and ears. by 8pm it was all over his arms, chest, back and starting on his legs. i gave him some benedryl and he went to sleep.

the next day it was no better. they began to look like welts all melding together. i took him to the doctor and turns out he had hives. we have no idea what caused it, we just knew it wasn't anything serious. gave him prednisone for 3 days, benedryl every 6 hours. the next day, he went to school. it was looking awesome by the time i picked him up. 2 hours later...bad again. 2 hours later...even worse. called the doctor and he reminded me it could take up to 2 weeks for it to go away. kept him home the next day, then thursday and friday were snow/cold days.

by friday night he looked great again. saturday was another soccer game. i was nervous about taking him, figuring it was something there that caused this. but we had to take the chance. he was fine. got home, fine. daddy left for work about 6 hours later, still fine. 20 minutes after daddy left....welts all over his face, neck, front, back, arms and starting on his legs. in 20 minutes time! so i gave him benedryl again and called the exchange. they told us that there was nothing emergent and that it could be re-exposure to an allergen, or it could still be the same case of hives, as they can last for up to 2 weeks coming and going.

poor baby. he looks miserable when they appear. if we don't tell him they are there, he doesn't mess with them, but i just want to scratch for him. i just hope that it's not anything at soccer. granted, he's never played at this place before and has done fine at other places.

cross your fingers that it's not soccer that's doing this. and cross your fingers that this goes away and doesn't come back!!!
